Stella McCartney Sculpted Knitwear Silhouettes

964 Stella McCartney Knit Dress965 Stella McCartney Argle Knit

Having a chat with mother yesterday over the Sunday Times Style magazine she said, ‘It’s good isn’t it that proper jumpers are in fashion at the moment’. And she’s right – proper jumpers are on trend, and it is a good thing. I remember a few years ago traipsing the shops for a warm jumper that I thought was fashionable and having to come home empty handed.  Now, thanks to the heritage trend revival, it is easy to find knitwear that’s both practical and warm, and stylish and cool.

I’m not just talking about granny jumpers, but also cashmere sweaters and sculpted knitwear. It is thanks to designers showing proper clothing on the catwalks that we can snugly clothe ourselves from the high street this winter. Designers like Stella McCartney, who says, ‘knitwear plays on texture and volume and becomes a really important part of the wardrobe this season.’ McCartney has gone all out to create stunning knitwear of architectural proportions.

Take the Felted Form Sleeveless Dress, an Aran cable knit dress with cap sleeves and sculpted cocoon shape with exaggerated hips. It costs £655 but is made from 100% wool and is quite something to behold. They also offer a long-sleeved version and cardigan cable knit styles in powder blue, coral pink and sand.

Stella McCartney Launches Childrenswear Little Miss Stella

872 Little Miss Stella

Stella McCartney is definitely a yummy mummy. The fashion designer and mother of four has announced the launch of a new childrenswear collection to sit alongside her existing kids clothing range. The capsule collection is inspired by the Mr Men books as Mr Men creator, author and illustrator Adam Hargreaves worked on some graphics for Stella McCartney in 2008.

Originally created for Stella as an invitation for her fashion show, Little Miss Stella has gone on to inspire a whole kidswear collection and a book. The 32-page book based on the cartoon will tell the story of what happens when Little Miss Stella meets Little Miss Nobody, who has a problem bumping into people because no one notices her. Little Miss Stella solves all Nobody's troubles by designing her a bespoke suit, magically transforming into "somebody". Ah the power of fashion!

The seven piece capsule collection of Little Miss Stella will include an orange parka, T-shirt, jumper, pyjamas, bag, and a baby all-in-one and will come with a set of fabric pens that can be used to draw on the items - if you want to. The range caters for newborns right up to 14 years old which seems a tad optimistic to me. 14 year olds in Little Miss? How sweet and innocent your kids must be Stella. Items from the Little Miss Stella collection will be available from August.

The announcement follows a rise in designer childrenswear and some kids surpass grown-ups in the style stakes. Last year stylish mummys got very excited about Lanvin childrenswear ‘Lanvin Petite’, a chic Parisian line of little skirts, leopard print and faux fur collared coats.

Stella McCartney Launches Affordable Ethical Lingerie Collection

866 Stella Lingerie

As if Stella McCartney hasn’t been busy enough of late, designing the Team GB Olympic kit, she has come up with a new affordable lingerie collection. The latest addition to her ever-growing eponymous brand is 'Stella', a collection of everyday lingerie. McCartney first introduced lingerie into her fashion empire in 2008 under the full name Stella McCartney. Silky, lacy bras, knickers and chemises, plus cheeky motif briefs have been sold in department stores and online for the last four years.

The new range is more affordable, but certainly not cheap. Bras will retail around £40 and briefs for £20. The new range incorporates innovative technology to create the thinnest and lightest of styles; one of the most invisible underwear collections on the market. Perfect for wearing under lightweight clothing, the collection offers a "nearly nude wearing experience" yet in styles far prettier than your average t-shirt bra.

The debut Stella range incorporates three 'stories' - Stella Smooth, Stella Lace and Stella Mesh and five key bra shapes, Moulded Underwire, Balconnet, Plunge, Strapless and Supernatural, a new-to-the-market bra silhouette which is completely wireless and has been technologically developed to be almost invisible while providing amazing cleavage and an almost naked fit. All styles feature McCartney’s signature three gold rings, made from ethical, recycled metal and also make use of organic cotton.

Stars Wear Stella McCartney for Paul McCartney’s New Video Launch

732 Stella McCartney Black Dress

As the premiere for Sir Paul McCartney’s new video ‘My Valentine’ was held in daughter Stella McCartney’s West Hollywood boutique it is no surprise that many of the stars in attendance turned up in Stella’s designs. Stella McCartney’s body-con dresses, peplum hems and sheer panelling have been a red carpet favourite for the last year; sexy and easy to wear, her frocks flatter most figures.

Two ladies to catch the press’s attention at the premiere were ex-No Doubt signer Gwen Stefani and Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr as they wore similar black Stella McCartney dresses. You might expect Kerr, being a 28-year old supermodel, to outshine 42-year old Stefani but whilst Kerr showed off her model like figure to perfection, Stefani displayed a more hourglass silhouette and radiated confidence.

Gwen looked striking in her Stella McCartney trouser suit, complete with sheer panels around a peplum bustier and see-through portions down both sides of the delicate long-sleeved top.  Kerr’s dress boasted a daring wide split along the front of the frock and mesh panels down her left hand side. Both ladies wore their hair tied back and accessorized with a metallic clutch, to break up the black. Whilst Kerr opted for natural make-up, Stefani sported a flash of bright red lipstick.

Mother-to-be Reese Witherspoon also put in an appearance and didn’t let her pregnancy get in the way of her style as she rocked a black shift dress with cut-out detail on the arms and skirt. Kristen Stewart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Smart and Ginnifer Goodwin were also in attendance. Kristen Stewart’s style looked a little haphazard as she teamed a black blazer with frumpy blue skirt, white shirt and flat black shoes.

Get Stick Thin Legs with Fashion’s Illusion Jeans

718 River Island Stripe Jean

Just like last year’s optical illusion dress, the optical illusion trousers can give you a cheat’s figure. With clever panelling the trousers can shave inches off your legs to make you look skinnier than you actually are. We all know the value of clever dressing, but designers have got even more intelligent with their designs making it easier than ever to embrace clever dressing.

One of the most recognisable fashion looks last season was the Stella McCartney body con optical illusion dress. Available in a range of styles and worn by Kate Winslet, Kate Moss and Yasmin le Bon, the style of dress made use of side panels to give the illusion of the perfect hourglass figure. It slimmed down ladies that wanted a svelte figure and emphasised curves on women with a boyish shape. It was a miracle dress.

Illusion jeans popping up in the shops this season draw the eye away from the actual outline of the body and redraw it a few inches in to create the perfect pins. The J Brand Nikko is a mid rise skinny jean with colour blocked panels. The River Island blue stripe skinny jeans help to slim down the leg with vertical stripes. They have a relaxed summer vibe and nautical look which would work well with bright white trainers.

Stella McCartney Launches Eco Friendly Sunglasses Collection for Spring 2012

489 Stella McCartney Glasses

High fashion label Stella McCartney has launched a collection of eco-friendly sunglasses for S/S ’12. As a life-long veggie, Stella has never used any fur or leather in her designs, but this is the first time that her ethical credentials have branched out to her eyewear range. The glasses are made from more than 50% natural and renewable sources.

Last summer when I set myself the ‘Ethical suitcase challenge’ (to see if I could only wear ethical and sustainable clothing for a week’s holiday in the sun) I looked at the options for sunglasses, and I admit, it was an area of ethical fashion I hadn’t before considered. Stella follows in Gucci’s footsteps who last year launched a sustainable range of sunglasses with Safilo, worldwide leader in the premium eyewear sector. Their frames were made from an innovative acetate which, compared to traditional acetate, contained a much higher percentage of materials from natural origins.

The frames launched by Stella McCartney are the result of extensive research to increase the use of raw materials from natural origins. Stella said: ‘Every industry should look at things differently, try to use different materials and question the sustainability of the materials they use now’. Stylish too, the sunglasses cost £144 to £156. There are large round framed styles, aviators and classic vintage shapes. My favourite for the new season is the 50s style vintage frames in tan (pictured); they will go with all of the new season trends and instantly lift an outfit.

Wear Sequins for Christmas Fashion Sparkle as Seen at Stella McCartney

466 Lipsy Sequin Dress

If there is ever a time to wear sequins, its Christmas. Whether it’s a night out on the town or Christmas day at home with the family, there are sequins for all occasions this festive season. They are also very on trend this season, with sequins seen on the catwalk at Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Prada.

At Stella McCartney oversized sequins were placed on black and white chiffon dresses and blouses. The fashion lingo for these over sized sequins is ‘paillettes’, French for ‘spangle’. Marc Jacobs went for a tougher approach with black paillettes on structured black garments. Paillettes lift an outfit and are definitely the trendiest way to wear sequins.

Apparently sequins are thought to date back to 2500BC! Evidence suggests that the people of Pakistan attached gold versions to clothes in the Kot Diji era. Fast forward a few thousand years and sequins are available not just on the catwalk but all over the High Street from Marks and Spencer to Primark. Be brave about it and wear your sequins with confidence. Gold or red will be particularly dazzling for the festive season. For a day time look, team sequins with a less textured item. Pair a sequined top with a cashmere knit and smart jeans for pretty yet comfortable Christmas Day style.

The Return of the Christmas Jumper but this Year it’s Right on Trend

425 Stella McCartney SweaterRemember the look of horror when Bridget Jones first spots Mark D’Arcy at the family Christmas party in that rather fetching (ok maybe not) reindeer jumper? Indeed Christmas jumpers have something of a reputation. They are something your Gran knits sincerely, or you might wear for comedic value. Or at least they were until this year when Christmas jumpers have become totally cool again.

Men, women and kids can all pull off the Christmas sweater look with style this winter. The A/W catwalks were awash with Fair-Isle knits and animal jumpers. It’s a look I wouldn’t have been seen dead in a few years ago, but now of course we all know granny chic is cool.

Markus Lupfer has made a name for himself as funky knitwear designer extraordinaire. His animal jumper designs have directly influenced many of the styles on the High Street. A particularly Christmassy offering is this red and white snowflake merino wool sweater, £285. It’s very easy to wear and exceptionally festive.

That said, I defy you to find any Christmas jumper more luscious than this one (pictured) by Stella McCartney at net-a-porter. Made from wool and alpaca blend, this chunky cream knit features polar bears and snowflakes but is at the top of the market at £670. For the designer look and feel at a lower price range try Jack Wills who have a range of cute Christmas jumpers. The Morford sweater (£98) features skiers, whilst the Whittendale (£98) crew neck features a classic Christmas pattern and is available in red or navy.

National Treasures Launched at Liberty by Stella McCartney, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood

328 Vivienne Westwood CrownLovely Liberty, they are full of great ideas and beautiful things. The London department store, which has been standing since 1875, combines a rich heritage and contemporary designer names. Now, Liberty has enlisted top British designers to create one-of-a-kind products which will be sold at auction for charity, under the name National Treasures.

Something of a celeb himself, Liberty’s director Ed Burstell was quoted by Vogue as saying: “Since moving to the UK and joining Liberty three years ago I discovered a wealth of creative, talented and interesting people I wanted to work with and so decided to do this in one big project where we could donate the proceeds from the product sales to charity.  National Treasures enables the great British public to come in to Liberty and buy something completely unique created by their idols and know that they are also supporting their nominated charities too."

So what have they got? Queen of dramatics, Vivienne Westwood, designed a Liberty print crown. The crown was originally designed for her Harris Tweed autumn winter collection and uses a patchwork of prints emblazoned with badges and brooches. With a guide price of £1500, the proceeds will go to Vivienne Westwood’s chosen human rights charity, Liberty.

Stella McCartney Dress Gives Kate Winslet the Perfect Figure: The Power of Illusion

Last week, actress Kate Winslet wowed the crowd at Venice Film Festival in a figure hugging Stella McCartney dress. The clever design in nude had black panels to each side and a seam across the bust, giving the illusion of a small waist and perky breasts. In short, the dress gave her the perfect hourglass figure and she isn’t the only one to cotton on to the power of clever dressing.

Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Carol Vorderman have all been spotted in the same Alexander McQueen dress, designed by the late designer himself. This popular creation cost £2,500 and used black stripes on a white dress to give the illusion of an hourglass figure. Liv Tyler also wore a Stella McCartney frock in plain navy with black side panels. In some cases, designers are literally drawing the perfect shape onto the design.

Ah the power of illusion! My question is what took the designers so long? Fashion is all about flattering the figure and creating the perfect silhouette; a simple panel here, a little line there, can make all the difference. The trend was first seen in 2009 when Alexander McQueen and Herve Leger both showed clever figure-enhancing designs on the catwalk. By adding dark panels at the sides, inches can be lost off the waist when the wearer is standing against a dark background.

Celebs Love Spotty Dresses from Stella McCartney’s Winter Collection

203 Stella McCartney Winter

Polka dots are officially an autumn/winter trend and Stella McCartney is definitely queen of spots for next season. A number of glamorous stars have already been seen in the dotty creations which make up a chunk of McCartney’s winter 2011/2012 range.

The collection featured McCartney’s trademark masculine tailoring, alongside a range of bodycon dresses with daring cut-out sheer panels.  Colours were kept incredibly grown up, using just black, white and navy.  The variations on the black polka dot body con dresses are causing a stir amongst the fashion world, quite simply, there is no chicer way to wear spots this winter.

The gorgeous Natalia Vodianova wears one of the naughtiest frocks in the new season Stella McCartney ad campaign, where the dress leaves little to the imagination on the right side of her body.  Jane Fonda shows that McCartney works for any age, as she sports a similarly risqué dress on the front cover of September’s edition of Harper’s Bazaar. In March Kate Winslet looked beautifully serene in one of the black body con frocks with sheer polka dot panel at the New York Mildred Pierce premiere and Liv Tyler was seen in the polka dot peplum dress in May.

Indeed McCartney showed a number of variations of this frock at her Paris show in March, but her white paillette dresses have been equally popular.  Cheryl Cole wore one for her 28th birthday party in London, a halterneck mini dress embellished with white discs. Penelope Cruz, Liz Tyler and Dianna Agron have all been spotted (excuse the pun) in McCartney’s plain body con dresses, also from her winter collection.
