KARL the New Women’s Fashion Line by Karl Lagerfeld Launches on Net-A-Porter

529 Karl Sachi Skirt530 Karl Bansi“Fashion is about two things: evolution and the opposite” words spoken by Karl Lagerfeld, and you better listen to him because this guy knows a thing or two about fashion. Since arriving in Paris from his native Hamburg in the 1950s, Lagerfeld has designed for some of the most influential fashion houses in the world. Moving from Valentino to Fendi, to Chloe and now Chanel, Lagerfeld has set trends and shaped contemporary fashions with more than 200 runway shows under his stylish belt.

Today Lagerfeld’s much anticipated new fashion line KARL launched through net-a-porter.com. The luxury online retailer has a one month exclusivity deal to sell the Karl line before it is offered on Lagerfeld branded sites. Check out net-a-porter for everything you could want to know about Lagerfeld and his new fashion range, including a video interview with the super-star designer.

Karl is a women’s wear line inspired by high fashion but with a mid-range price tag. A strong collection of staples in black, white and silver make this the perfect everyday mix and match collection. The £50 cutaway leather gloves are already sold out, no doubt to the eager fashionistas who want the first bite of the cherry without spending a fortune.

Biker inspired, there is plenty of leather and sparkle to satisfy the most hard-core trend lovers. There are a handful of printed cotton tees featuring the designer’s well recognised profile from £65. Team one with the Sabine sequined shorts for evening (£195) or the high rise patterned skinny jeans for day (£195). My best buy of the season though, has to be the Sachi faux leather pleated mini skirt, which at £135, could easily be mistaken for something far more expensive.

‘Karl’ the New Affordable Womenswear label by Karl Lagerfeld

430 Karl Lagerfeld CannesKarl Lagerfeld is one of the most iconic fashion designers of all time. As head designer for Chanel, Fendi and his own name label, Lagerfeld has continued to stun us with his artistic vision. In working for the fashion elite however, Lagerfeld’s pieces are nothing but a dream for most of us. Not for much longer though, because Lagerfeld is gearing up to launch a new fashion line and you will be pleased to know that it is much more affordable than his normal collections.

The new womenswear label, ‘Karl’ will be unveiled during Couture Fashion Week in Paris on 25th January and will go on sale exclusively on net-a-porter with prices starting at £52. If a success, there may be Karl Lagerfeld standalone stores in the pipeline.  The 100 piece range will feature evening and daywear, including timeless black dresses with plunging backs, silver jeans and vest tops. The first collection definitely has a rock-n-roll vibe and you can see the first sneaky peak picture on vogue.co.uk.

Lagerfeld told WWD: "It's my today's taste and style and a reflection of how I think a great number of people would like to be dressed now. I just want not too expensive clothes that people may like and perhaps want to wear. That was my concept for a long time, but my business partners in the past wanted to be like Chanel or Fendi without putting behind what is needed to be like that."

The sneak peak outfit includes a pair of slim-leg, black trousers teamed with a metallic biker jacket and leather vest. A detachable collar bares the words "I only wear the latest thing, it's my job." It is a collection for ladies with attitude. Unbelievably Lagerfeld is approaching 80 years of age, but with new projects in the pipeline, he shows no sign of slowing down.
