Topshop’s First S/S Fashion Collection has Arrived: Introducing Surf Luxe

479 Topshop Pink Trouser

With both sports and seaside trends set to take over for spring/summer ’12, it is no surprise that the first New Year collection to be introduced by Topshop is ‘Surf Luxe’. For playful girls that like to ride the waves (or at least look like you could) this is a scrummy collection full of pastel shades and relaxed basics. These sporty separates have ‘sea-inspired details’ flowing right through them. Metallics, mesh and funky patterns create casual mix-and-match pieces that you can start incorporating into your wardrobe now.

One of my fave pieces is the baby pink, skinny zip pocket trouser, £38. Beautifully soft and comfortable, they would work for spring with a sweater, or for summer with an oversized tee. Also on the pink theme I love the sleeveless shirt, made from softly draping polyester, this is sure to be a S/S staple. Wear it under the knitted tweedy cotton jumper for a cute look with skinny jeans.

For evening, ramp up the sports theme with the knitted mesh sleeve dress, £46 or one of the printed t-shirts with leggings. The mesh panel leggings are particularly sexy, but if you are feeling extrovert why not wear the sparkly pedal pushers. Yes not leggings, actual nineties pedal pushers. Mini skirts are shunned for the grown-up, trend-led pencil skirt. The Meg colour block skirt is available in an ocean emerald with sporty black side panels (slimming too).

Of course no beach babe is complete without a swimsuit, so Topshop have included these as part of the collection too. Swimwear is skimpy and unashamedly shiny, like the purple lurex one-piece, £32. Shoes are bright, bright, bright, with a platform heel, apart from the ballet pumps which are just bright. Nail varnish, make-up and accessories complete the look for the full hedonic Surf Luxe experience
