Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and it probably splits the nation more than any other celebratory day. Is it the perfect excuse to celebrate your love, receive flowers and go out for a lovely meal, or just a commercialised affair dreamt up by the greetings card companies?
The problem with Valentine’s Day is the pressure of not knowing what the other person will do. Many people in long-term relationships may just push the day aside and get on with life, but men should be very wary of the girl who says she doesn’t want anything. What she means is, she wants you to romantically override this instruction and buy a card and some flowers instead. If you have agreed that you are doing presents, or you are feeling particularly loving, good old lingerie will always make the perfect Valentine’s gift.
Every girl likes lingerie, and it’s something that can be difficult to justify buying for yourself unless it’s super practical, because it doesn’t tend to be on show, whereas a new dress or shoes will be. Rigby & Peller’s Creative Director, Nicky Clayton, offers the following tips for successfully selecting the perfect gift this Valentine’s Day:
1. Take a look in your partner’s lingerie drawer – You will be able to gauge her favourite colours, giving an indication of what colour lingerie she would like to receive.
2. Don’t forget style – Style is just as important as size. Purchase something pretty, feminine and sexy as women generally don’t find practical bras romantic.
3. Outerwear is as important as underwear – Take note of what she wears most. Does she prefer tight clothing, deep necklines or loose clothing? Rigby & Peller’s friendly lingerie stylists will be on hand to help advise on the best choices to create the perfect silhouette.
4. Still unsure? – Still spoilt for choice or unsure, give the lady in your life a gift vouchers treating her to the infamous Rigby & Peller fitting experience. Alternatively, speak to one of the lingerie stylists who will be able to talk through what you’re looking for and guide you in the right direction.
Rigby & Peller is right at the top of the lingerie market. If you can afford that then lovely, your lady deserves the best, but if not there are plenty of alternatives. New lingerie store Boux Avenue has a great selection of pretty styles at High Street prices and Marks and Spencer is well worth considering for a selection of well-fitting and pretty styles. Alternatively, if you prefer to shop online try figleaves.com for a whole department store of looks without feeling awkward.
