Chinti & Parker have also launched a sweatshirt jacket alongside the sweatshirt dress. The jacket has a classic blazer shape, but with the softness of the more casual fabric it is easier, and more youthful to wear. Also made from 100% organic cotton, the jacket is available in navy or mauve and costs £95. The sweatshirt dress costs £88.
Chinti & Parker is an ethical label founded in 2009 by Anna Singh (daughter of Tom Singh, founder of New Look . . . I wonder why she felt the need to start an ethical brand) and Rachael Wood. They describe their business as the opposite of fast fashion, using only organic cotton, aiming to be carbon neutral, and working under fair trade principles.
They have recently introduced a fabric made from bamboo and seacell – a derivative of seaweed. They will soon be using organic cashmere as soon as it becomes available and their children’s knitwear is made by a team of Dorset based knitters! Their basic jersey wear isn’t cheap, but it will last and be a joy to wear, buy one of their oversized tees and you will want to live in it. They stock a wide range of beautiful cashmere knits in muted colours that will never go out of fashion.
