Katie Holmes is all over the press at the moment. Not for her latest film, or fashion line, but for her announced divorce from Tom Cruise. I however, would like to divert attention from her love life back to her fashion label, Holmes & Yang, which launched in 2009 and this autumn will showcase its debut at New York Fashion Week.
Holmes & Yang, established by the actress and friends, stylist Jeanne Yang and businesswoman Heather McQuarrie, is set to hold a presentation at New York Fashion Week in September. The small clothing label is stocked in Barneys, Harvey Nichols and the Montaigne Market in Paris. The label isn’t cheap, you have to be something of a celeb to afford many of their chic pieces. Holmes & Yang create luxury basics, aiming to appeal to everyone from "rock stars to heads of state" - as Holmes told Vogue last summer. The design team specialise in wearable day-to-night pieces, with an emphasis on craftsmanship – attention to detail is key.
With one of the best dressed kids on the planet, Holmes, mother of Suri, has a lot to live up to. The brand specialises in work wear basics with a designer edge – blouses, sleek trousers and shirt dresses. The leather back cape jacket might cost over $3000 but is made to precision in wool felt. The small foliage print blouse is pretty and feminine, made with a tantalising sheer fabric and chic black detailing. Monochrome, as ever, is the perfect way to achieve a classically stylish look.
Holmes and Yang is a small label, with an even smaller customer base due to their price bracket. Yet, with this kind of style, it is worth looking out for their fashion week debut come fall.
