Jean Paul Gaultier Launches Swimwear for La Perla

172 Gaultier La Perla lingerie

Jean Paul Gaultier first teamed up with La Perla last year to design an exclusive range of lingerie.  Now, the fashion designer has announced that a swimwear line in his name will be paddling its way into stores come January.

The swimwear line retains Gaultier’s signature bondage look, strong fashion for strong women. The range includes bikinis, one-pieces (that aren’t actually in one piece) and beach cover-ups in bright orange, khaki, black and sky blue. There is a backless cover-up dress, a pink ruffle bikini, red bandeau bikini, black swimsuit with bondage style side panels and a sky blue bandeau cut away swimsuit. A navy one piece with cinched in waist and loose, cowl neck top provides a modern alternative to the traditional swimsuit and would work well with a cover-up from beach to bar. Body con mini-skirts with lattice tie detailing complete the collection.

Prices start at £225 and will be available from Jean Paul Gaultier and La Perla stores from January, perfect for all those people going on a winter break to the Caribbean.  If however, the prices are a bit steep, or you can’t wait until next year, why not take inspiration from the collection to plan this summer’s beach look.  We have seen a huge increase in popularity of the one-piece, thanks to high fashion designers like Missoni, Mui Mui and 3.1 Phillip Lim embracing a more covered up look. You can go for a sporty bondage style, stand out print, or borrow a look from lingerie trends.

La Perla and JP Gaultier were always a match made in heaven.  La Perla was founded in 1954 when designer Ada Masotti opened a corset boutique in Bologna. By the 80s it had become a large lingerie and swimwear brand. Gaultier’s first collection for La Perla included a black and nude colour palette, one of his iconic conical bras and highly elaborate bondage style corsetry. His current collection is very wearable, but with prices starting at £135 for a brief, it is certainly a treat.
