Does the versatility of jeans know no bounds? For summer we had the bright jean, red specifically if you were really keen to jump on the trend. Now, the world of denim has gone a step further to the cocktail jean, skinny and sexy, in leopard print or shimmering hues, the cocktail jean is the latest way to wear denim.
‘Cocktail’ is starting to become a bit of an ‘it’ word in fashion. Not to be taken literally, cocktail is there to describe something super stylish. The cocktail ring, the cocktail skirt, and now, the cocktail jean. The special style catching everyone’s eye is by CURRENT/ELLIOTT. Costing £214 they have a muted leopard print look and super skinny fit. Already spotted on Sarah Jessica-Parker and Kate Moss, the style sold out on my-wardrobe within 24 hours of being launched.
This new season jean can be worn in the day with a t-shirt (now) or chunky knit (when winter has taken hold). It can be dressed up for night with heels and a simple black top and works whether you prefer a grungy or glam aesthetic. Levi’s Made & Crafted waxed black jeans (£125) have a leather look, but by being waxed denim they are automatically far cooler and are able to join the cocktail jean club. Unlike more adventurous designs, these are likely to stay around for more than one season.
Feeling brave? Check out ASOS wet look leopard print skinny jeans (£40). Unlike the subtle CURRENT/ELLIOTT jeans, the ASOS version is very shiny and features very strong leopard print. However, team with a black top and heels and you have a look. MOTO at Topshop also have a fabulous denim collection all available at reasonable prices. Their foil skinny jeans could easily be mistaken for designer but actually cost £50 and if you think leopard print has been done to death, they have a zebra print pair which are rather fetching.
